Four Missing Parts Of Failed Startup Websites

By Martin Johnson

You've spent months planning every detail of your start-up and you finally feel ready to let the world know about it. However, it is the internet age so you are going to need a website that conveys your message to your potential clients or success may take a while.

You might have already decided on exactly what you want your website to do and have on it but before you race ahead there are four pillars of website design you need to know.

Here are the four website design elements you need to pay attention too.

Firstly, you need to decide what the purpose of your website is going to be. Are you planning on making sales, engaging people via a blog, or all of the above and more.

Websites exist for various reasons because each site has a different end goal in mind. Google has a different end goal to Amazon and Amazon has a different end goal to Facebook. That is because they generate revenue in different ways.

Interlace your brand

Websites convey messages to your audience on a subconscious level so the message of your brand flows through all the elements of your design, which may require the experience of a professional designer.

Don't fall into the trap of just sticking your logo onto your website and hoping people will connect with your information. You need to actively take steps, with your design, that constantly reminds people about your brand. Visit brands that you love and pay attention to the little things they've done on their sites to give the brand front and center.

By embracing your brand and having it flow through the whole site, you'll leave a lasting impression on your visitors, who may decide that like what you stand for and fall in love with your product.

Focus on ALL screen sizes

Smart phones and tablets are not a dying breed so don't just build your website for desktop users. Insist on a responsive design so your website will adapt to whatever screen size it finds itself constrained too.

The desktop market is getting smaller and smaller, but you still need to pay attention to it, which a responsive design will do for you. So if you decide to outsource your website design then make sure the company or freelancer you choose designs with a responsive framework by default.

The money is in the details

If you have identified your website goal and understand the importance of the internet for your business then don't skimp on the details.

It can be tempting to do-it-yourself, but the amount of time you'll spend learning how to do it does not correlate to how good the finished product will be. Experience in the trenches of web design takes years so don't fool yourself into thinking you can knock-up a master piece in a weekend. You cannot.
